Kelifos\2023

Kelifos is an extension of Stool Study\2023. One object (stool) was analyzed as parts\void\composition in a series of collage and watercolor. The object (stool) was then introduced to other objects (camper stove in purple\orange\green, weathered  tin can, pacific urchin, cowrie shell) and asked to engage with these objects compositionally. Parts (forms) as well as meanings (systems) are synthesized to create a new set of objects. Primary forms from the stool studies emerge as shell structures, adopting texture and color information from cowrie shell and pacific urchin. Secondary forms from the stool studies are coded by the color and structural logic of the camper gas trio -- factory made, neon, bulky. These elements are combined to find compositional and structural balance (in some cases the camper gas-coded extensions literally keep the “shell” or “kelifos'' upright). Other objects emerge organically from the synthesis of elements - land, water, fire - and descriptors - worn, fragile, bent. Process studies of each object in collage, ink and plaster led to their emergence in 3 dimensional space.
